AKS Elementary

We went on our school trip and visited the Takahama City Kawara Museum.

In the morning we split into groups and walked around carefully following our “Oni Machi” map. In the afternoon we go to experience making ceramics using clay. After listening carefully to the explanation, we took turns using the potter’s wheel to make things like dishes and teacups.  It was quite the battle to get all the pieces neatly together but in the end we were really happy with what we made. Our work is one-of-a-kind in the whole world! We’re looking forwards to it being delivered to school after the clay has been baked.

It was a valuable and fruitful learning experience for the children to see and feel the art of kawara with their own eyes, while walking through the tourist spots chosen as one of the “New Japan Walking Diary 100 Hometown Paths”.
