School Camp
Third and fourth graders went on a two-day, one-night School Camp to Asahi Kogen Genkimura. The first day began with making udon noodles. To give the noodles a firm texture, the students kneaded the dough vigorously with their feet and carefully rolled it out with rolling pins. The finished noodles—each with its own unique thickness and length—tasted exceptional. For dinner, they took on the challenge of starting their own barbecue fires, and in the evening, they observed Albireo and Saturn through a large astronomical telescope. They were completely captivated by the sight of the beautifully shining stars. On the second day, the students prepared breakfast entirely on their own, from washing and cooking the rice to chopping tofu for the miso soup. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to deeply appreciate how much they rely on their families, who cook for them every day. Afterward, they enjoyed Nordic walking in the crisp, fresh air and created beautiful, unique patterns by dyeing handkerchiefs with natural plant dyes.
Through these diverse experiences, the students spent two days thinking independently, taking initiative, and cooperating with their peers. They gained a strong sense of accomplishment and showed inspiring personal growth as a result.
