On the south side of the classrooms is a wonderful gardening area where students have a chance to observe, interact with and even grow a few vegetables! First and second grades have planted and are taking care of cucumbers, eggplants, tomatoes and goya (sometimes called “bitter melon”). Third through Sixth grade are growing impatiens, sunflowers, and hechima (loofa vine). Already, some of the tomatoes and cucumbers have been harvested! We hope that by taking care of living things, like gardens, students find ways to enrich their own hearts and the hearts of those around them with care and consideration.
